Precision matters: Decimal place updates on Bitstamp Pro (web & app)

At Bitstamp, we’re all about keeping your trading experience precise, efficient, and seamless. That’s why we’re updating decimal place precision on Bitstamp Pro (web and app) to improve accuracy in select markets.
If you’re using our Basic mode, you’re all set; no action is needed. But if you’re actively trading on Bitstamp Pro, here’s what you need to know.
What’s changing?
Starting Thursday, March 6, at 10 AM CET (9 AM UTC), we’ll be adjusting decimal place precision for the following trading pairs:
- XSGD/USD: Previously base precision 5, counter precision 2. New precision: base 2, counter 5.
- XSGD/USDT: Previously base precision 5, counter precision 2. New precision: base 2, counter 5.
- SOL/USD: Previously base precision 2, counter precision 4. New precision: base 5, counter 3.
- SOL/EUR: Previously base precision 2, counter precision 4. New precision: base 5, counter 3.
What to expect on March 6
To apply these changes, all open orders (including stop loss and take profit orders) will be canceled in the affected markets. Here’s the timeline:
- 10:00 AM CET (9 AM UTC): All the markets mentioned will go into a trade halt, and all open orders will be cancelled.
- 10:15 AM CET (9:15 AM UTC): Markets will be adjusted to the new decimal point precisions.
- 12:40 AM CET (11:40 AM UTC): Markets will enter a no-matching trade halt, allowing you to place orders but not match trades (auction).
- 12:55 AM CET (11:55 AM UTC): Trading will resume in full.
One thing to keep in mind
You’ll now have greater price accuracy where it counts. But keep this in mind - orders exceeding the allowed decimal places will result in an error and won’t be created.
Example of trading SOL/EUR: Before, you could only place an order for buying Solana at 2 decimal points (e.g., 1.01 SOL). After the change, you will be able to place an order for 1.00001 SOL.
What you need to do
Since all open orders for the affected pairs will be canceled during the upgrade, you’ll need to place them again once trading resumes. After that, you’re all set to trade with even more precision.
